A skill I didn’t know I needed when I got elected was how to conduct myself at large events. Although I would consider myself to have reasonably good manners, there were times at networking events when I realized I needed more skills. Sometimes the advice to “just be yourself” is very limiting. Better advice would be “learn the proper manners for every environment”. @emilypostinstitute ...

Here is something you might not know: most of the photos I post are selfies. Over the pandemic, I thought it would be interesting to learn more about framing, lighting, and angles. The problem, of course, is that taking photos of friends is not possible when you can’t treat casual contact so... casually. Thankfully I found a model who has the same patience I do. ...

The afternoons are warmer. The days are longer. But the mornings remain cooler and they still belong to me. This was me this morning. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Yeah. I know Throwback Thursday is meant to have big hair photos, but I don’t have a lot of photos of me from when I was younger. My throwbacks are just going to be more recent. If I had one tip I would share above all else, it is to find a hobby that is not union activism. It's easy to get caught up in the endless opportunities to do more and more and more until you no longer have time for yourself. To be an effective leader, you must find time to do something for yourself that is NOT Netflix. ...

And my pageant feed is right here.

I wanted a pair of beaded red dress earrings to wear during the pageant and they arrived just in time to wear today for a two-day Zoom meeting! Many thanks to my friend, Rick Joe, who connected me to his daughter, Chantel Watt. The earrings were meant to be because they matched my dress for today! ❤️ ...

I am so proud of the stand I am watching my pageant sisters take on hate crimes against Asian women. It is not easy to speak up when people they love and trust deny there is a problem and then deny their experience. Watching my pageant sisters use their space and their platform to speak truth is magnificent. Whatever your experience, listen to the people who are speaking out on racialized women’s violence. Your discomfort does not change what they have spent their lives understanding.I am proud to know such strong women. I am devastated watching them being torn down for speaking out.#stopasianhate ...

I had a realization today. I weigh FORTY POUNDS more than I did when I thought I was too fat to wear a bathing suit and go to the hot springs at Harrison back in 2012.It’s true. I was there for a weeklong school. In the evenings when everyone would thunder off to the hot springs, I stayed in my room. I didn’t even know where the entrance to the hot springs were until 2013.Body confidence doesn’t know a size. Body confidence lives in your head. Today I feel confident in my own body. I’m 40 lbs UP and ten years OLDER and I am very proud to represent my city as a pageant delegate. ...
