I came home this evening to a call from a coworker.
”Hey. What do you think about the boss man’s news?”
”What news?”
”He’s retiring.”
I felt like all the air had been sucked out of the room. I have a truly amazing boss. I’m in a temporary assignment in my job and managed to land, not just once, but twice, on a team led by an exemplary leader. And now, exactly like my manager from my base position, he was moving on.
It is impossible to say how important it is to have a leader who mentors me. I often feel like a boat afloat in a stormy sea. Having someone who has walked this path before and knows how to walk it with others makes the work day much better.
Good-bye, Brendan Dick, aka the Boss Man. I wish you well in future.
(Also it was very selfish of you to retire when I still need your mentoring. There. I said it. Now I feel better.)
