I learned a new word today: “astroturfing.” Until a few hours ago, I didn’t know there was a word for that icky feeling.
I had never heard the word “astroturfing” before but in the middle of a podcast it came up, not once but multiple times. So I looked it up. It’s a term that means, “claiming something came from the grassroots when it actually came from the top.”
It’s a concept I seen heard multiple times over and knew in my heart that it was wrong. If you live inside the ever changing world of social activism, you’ve experienced it. But until today, I didn’t know there was a verb that expressed it.
I learned a new word today: “astroturfing.” Until a few hours ago, I didn’t know there was a word for that icky feeling that I sometimes get when I really want to shout, “BS!” I’m going to be hanging onto this word. I have a feeling it’s going to come in handy.
