In the middle of my work day, I got a call that we had to leave to go see my father-in-law. I knew he wasn’t doing well, but didn’t know today I would be saying goodbye while he passed away.
I have never been with anyone when they passed on. I walked in and said hello to him. He sort of jerked and breathed heavily for a moment as if acknowledging me, but I wasn’t sure if he knew who I was. It was clear he was in a coma and my greeting had reached him.
And then a few minutes later, he was gone.
Goodbye, Gary Donaldson. You have been a good father-in-law.
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss.
Thank you. It was very sudden.
