5 Tips to Stay Charged as an Activist

If you are running as a candidate at your next Convention, I am going to tell you something that will blow your mind: half your preparation needs to be mental with support from your physical habits. Members know when you are in it for the long haul and don’t just get dazzled by the titles.

So how do you make sure that you have energy that will endure? Here are five very easy tips!

  1. Walk 30 minutes. It doesn’t need to be a workout. Just walk up and down your living room for the duration of one TV show. The point is to keep your brain and body connected. Movement does that.
  2. Instead of hitting snooze, listen to an audiobook on a timer. When the book stops playing, it’s time to get up. Set a second alarm if you may fall back asleep. You need to read every day. Obviously, quality counts because this is your daily education. If you don’t have an audiobook, look for TED Talks or the channels of people who give TED Talks.
  3. Set up “Do not disturb” on your phone. You need actual hours that do not belong to your pinging phone. Turn your phone off at night. It is unlikely there is anything time-sensitive at midnight.
  4. Drink water—more than you do now. You know who you are. Your body cannot function without proper hydration. Set a physical water goal and stick to it.
  5. Get a hobby or take a class. Any hobby. Any class. If you can’t pick, get two hobbies and an online free course. Or drop a hobby. What counts is that your brain has a creative place to rest. When it stops being a creative outlet for you, find something new. No one says you have to love embroidery, Pilates, and colouring books for the rest of your life.

Don’t worry about perfection in any of these. You are finding a place in your life that is unique to you. Balance is impossible when you are an activist. What you can do instead of seeking balance is seek bold outlets.

Remember: activism is a marathon, not a sprint.❤️
