Nothing says, “weekend” like a chance to read a good book and this weekend’s book was a repeat for me: Vlog Like a Boss: How to Kill It Online with Video Blogging
When I read this book last summer, I wondered if it was still relevant. It’s a few years old and in terms of social media, anything over a year old may very well be out of date. But I’m pleasantly surprised to see it is still pretty much bang on. It’s a very easy read, which I consider a major plus since I’m not always up for an academic dissertation on the finer points of whatever it is I’m reading.
For me, however, there is one very serious plus to what the author has to say: she outlines a formula for how to write a script, how long that script should be, and what quality of content you should add to a YouTube video.
As anyone who follows my blog knows, I am an amateur YouTuber. Now when I say “amateur” what I really mean is that I am super-mega-hyper-critical of my own footage and delete most of it without editing it. I can do a Facebook live video with my members without hesitating, but as soon as I start creating footage for my YouTube channel, I get all hyper-critical and end up deleting most of what I created. (Yeah, I know. A ME problem.)
I wanted to draw some attention to this book, not only because it’s a good book, but because she’s a female vlogger, something significant in the male-led world of YouTube. If you’re a fledgling YouTube creator, as I am, and you need some female guidance, I’d recommend her book. It’s worth the read and if you’re a quick reader, you can read it in a night or two.
